Can you remember why you started smoking? Take yourself back to your first cigarette......can you feel it between your lips?....can you taste it?.....smell it? Is it a pleasant experience? Who is with you while you are smoking this very first cigarette? Why did you continue to smoke after that very unpleasant experience? Do you remember the unpleasant physical sensations? However unpleasant these feelings of choking, nausea, dizziness, there must have been something stronger that compelled you to smoke a second and a third and more cigarettes. Maybe you could blame it on peer pressure or simply state that it was something to do. And now, maybe a few years later or 20 or 40 years later, or even more, you are still smoking.
The first and most important step to becoming a non-smoker is taken once YOU decide that you are ready to quit. It has to be your choice, not your partner's or somebody else who loves and cares about your health and well being. Maybe your boss prefers you not to smoke and it is affecting your job. These reasons are not enough, because if a part of you still believes that you get something good from being a smoker (maybe you believe cigarettes help you to relax, cope better, be happier) then that part of you is not going to let you stop, well, at least it will make it harder for you to try. Once you believe you can kick the smoking habit (because that is all it is, a habit) and that cigarettes do NOT make you relax, cope better or be happier, then you will be successful. The hypnotherapist cannot make you quit, he or she can guide you through a process to help you, but it is yourself that ultimately makes it happen.
You may have a medical reason or a scare that is urging you to give up the smoking habit, for example, your doctor has diagnosed a smoking related disease.
Or you may know someone who is suffering from a smoking related illness, or someone who has died from one. Whatever your reason for quitting, hypnotherapy can assist you and supply you with the tools to stop smoking immediately and continue to be a non-smoker for as long as YOU want to be. And you don't need to suffer any withdrawal symptoms at all.
Did you know that the average smoker needs over 5,000 cigarettes a year?
A 40-a-day smoker spends more than £3,000 in 12 months on cigarettes and after five years will have spent over £16,000.
ASH (Action on Smoking & Health) states that smoking has more than 50 ways of making life a misery and more than 20 ways of killing you.
You don't need me or anyone else to tell you that your life can be improved by becoming a non-smoker. Just take a few moments now and imagine the differences between being a smoker and a non-smoker. There are many ways your life can be improved.
